Entering an Era of 21st Century Education

Boyanup School is adopting and adapting practices to address the evolution of education in the 21st Century. The modern day classroom design  revolves around the idea that students no longer are sitting alone at desks ‘giving out answers’ to a teacher at the front of the classroom.

Rather we have created spaces where students can collaborate and participate in real life environments, where they learn how to work in teams. Teachers become the facilitators of learning, while students become inquiry based learners.

Students learn by doing — the teacher is the coach. 21st Century skills learned through our curriculum, is interdisciplinary, integrated, project based, utilising skills including;

  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Collaboration and leading by influence
  • Agility and adaptability
  • Initiative and Entrepreneurialism
  • Effective Oral and Written Communication
  • Accessing and Analysing Information
  • Curiosity and Imagination

Boyanup Early Learning Centre

Through the provision of a quality, specialised and supportive early years program, Boyanup Primary School pays particular attention to the early years of schooling from kindergarten to year 2.

These years are the platform from which every child can become a successful student. Programs are based on the Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines and the Australian Early Years Learning Framework.

The Framework has a strong emphasis on structured play-based learning allowing children to explore, discover, negotiate, take risks, create meaning and solve problems—all important foundations for developing literacy, numeracy and social skills.

Our Early Intervention Language Development Program provides one to one assistance to students identified in Kindergarten to Year 2 classes who need support developing early language skills. This program is supported by a local speech pathologist who assesses students and designs programs to address specific needs. Our trained education assistants help to deliver this program, using this model of support to also work with students in Years 3 to 6 who require intervention with their literacy skills.

Experiential Learning

Children have a natural drive to learn and explore. They use different tools to communicate and  different ways of making their wants and needs expressed showing that they are capable and confident learners.

Along with  nurturing and skilled educators, effective learning requires a rich and stimulating environment that is designed to engage children  with the experiences, activities and equipment that we want them to engross and explore.

Inclusive Education

On a foundation of equity, integrity and respect we create high quality learning experiences for all children. We are committed to building partnerships based on trust, respect and recognition of different cultures, beliefs, languages, special needs and family dynamics.. We believe that every child has the right to a quality education that establishes the foundations for success, maximising their ability, while respecting their family, culture and identity.

Our Team

Are experienced educators who have access to quality expertise, resources, infrastructure, ongoing professional development and support. This ensures that our teachers and assistants, and the programs implemented across the school are at the forefront of  good educational practice.

Families as Partners

Research shows that children learn most successfully when families and educators work together. We work closely with our families to build positive and meaningful relationships to help create a caring environment, where every child is valued and their abilities, skills and interests are respected.

There is a real sense of community spirit at Boyanup Primary School where our staff build strong partnerships  not just with families, but also with external community agencies, to ensure we can work together to meet the needs of our students.
